Have you heard of the Weekend Box? It is a box which will fit through your letter box and has four activities in it for your child to do at the weekend.

Each activity in the box is designed to build sensory exploration skills for children aged 3 – 8 years old. It will also help teach them about different life skills in a way that they will enjoy.
Upon opening the box we were greeted by the Weekend Box gang. Wooster who likes to get creative in the kitchen, Hattie who likes to get her hands dirty in the garden, Sammy loves to get creative and Oswald who likes to read.
Inside the box we found four different coloured bags with stickers on telling us what they were an what was included in them. A small brown envelope which has four stickers inside. these stickers are to put on the worksheets once your child has completed them. Four worksheets, a colouring book and at the bottom of the box is a certificate that you can colour in and complete once your child has finished their activities.
We decided to start with the Lolly Stick Bird Feeder as my daughter said this looked fun to do.
Everything needed for this activity was included although the piece of string in the bag was only 3 inches long so we had to improvise with some cord I had laying around. I laid paper on the table and put the glue in a pot along with a glue spreader (not included). I gave my daughter the activity worksheet and let her read the instructions so she knew what to do.
It was really easy to follow and she started with laying 9 sticks in a line and gluing two more sticks going the opposite way. She then layered them up as directed and before we knew it she was done with the gluing and waiting for it all to dry.
As we had to find the string we waited for the bird feeder to dry.
Now this is supposed to be going up outside but with the crazy windy weather we have had my daughter didn’t want to hang it up out there until there was hardly any wind so it didn’t fall down. The reason for this according to her is, if the birds food is on the floor the bird will fly down and land on the floor and a cat will creep up and eat the bird. Bless her.
There is a bird spotting guide for your child to spot a Robin, Sparrow and Blackbird. She has spotted these without hanging the bird feeder out yet and also spotted blue tits and chaffinches which she was really happy about.
The other activities she has to do, when we get a weekend at home (which seems a rare thing these days) is making 3d glasses, potato boats and sand art. She is looking forward to doing these.
