We were sent Super Ski Jump from Drumond Park a few weeks ago to review, I must say when it arrived I was surprised at how small the box was as I was expecting it to be a lot bigger. Don’t let this fool you though because once all set up it is quite big!
There were a lot of pieces and stickers in the box so we fixed up the Super Ski Jump and then proceeded to put all the stickers on it. Adding the stickers took almost an hour to do but thankfully it only needs to be done the once.
The game is played over 3 rounds, you choose your character, each character has a different piece, a bathtub, skis, snowboard and sledge, these give you different points, but the higher the piece points, the harder they are to land!
The youngest person starts the game and puts their character at the top of the ramp, there are 3 different levels for the ramp that you can choose from just by slotting it into place. To get the character to move off you turn the red wheel which looks like a cog and it will start heading down the ramp. Then press the big red button which raises the bottom part of the ramp, the character will then go flying into the air.
I think the aim is for your character to jump up flip and land somewhere on the card or across the line, this is very complicated though as out characters seemed to fly about everywhere, hardly ever getting near the card to finish line. You count the slips and style of landing as they are what you get points for.
Once everyone has played their 3 rounds the players are then ranked on their single highest scoring jump and the winner is the one with the highest score. There is even a tiebreaker if 2 players end with the same number of points, a Jump Off where one jump will determine the winner.
When we played we found it hilarious that our characters wouldn’t land properly, laughing at each other every time, it was funny and frustrating at the same time. It was a quick game to play but the entertainment factor was fantastic. It is a great game for rainy days for definite, when moods are low, this will definitely brighten them up.
Super Ski Jump was released this Autumn, it is suitable for ages 8 and over, for 2- 4 players and its RRP is £19.99
