What if there was a way to get rid of your bills and free up more money each month? Not paying your creditors is one way to do this – but you’ll likely get a visit from the bailiffs in a few months and destroy your credit score in the process. There are much smarter (and legal) ways to reduce your bills. Here are just a few different ways to stop paying your bills.
Subscriptions
A lot of our bills are made up of subscriptions – this includes gym memberships, streaming platform fees and various other things we’ve signed up to.
Many of these subscriptions can go unused. Cutting out these subscriptions from your life could be a way of saving yourself some money each month.
Gym memberships are a subscription that many of us are guilty of not making use of. If you often find that you’re not motivated to go to the gym, why not find a new way to exercise? Exercising from home could be cheaper and you may find that you’re more spurred on – here are just a few great tips for working out at home.
When it comes to streaming platforms, consider whether you really get enough use out of them. Switching to torrenting could give you more freedom while choosing movies and you won’t have to pay a thing – you can find 24 good torrent sites in this guide. As for streaming music, plenty of streaming platforms are free so long as you’re willing to put up with ads.
Debt repayments
Debt repayments can cost many people huge amounts each month. The best way to eliminate debt from your life is to avoid it in the first place. This is particularly important when it comes to debts as a result of poor budgeting such as payday loans and arrears, however, it can be beneficial to also eliminate debts on personal luxuries too such as cars and holidays. All debts should be for investments only (i.e. buying a house, getting an education) or emergencies.
Consider taking steps to pay off any unnecessary debts as fast as you can so that you can be free of these expenses. This could involve making a few temporary cutbacks. If you’re paying huge amounts in interest, consider refinancing your debts with lower interest options. After you’ve paid off your debts, start putting the same amount of money into savings. This could allow you to buy those necessary luxuries such as new furniture, holidays and cars without relying on finance.
Energy bills
What if you didn’t have to pay energy bills? Sustainable home investments can make this achievable. While expensive to install, these investments can allow you to harvest your own energy so that you don’t have to run off the mains.
Solar panels are the most popular example of this. With enough solar panels, it’s possible to generate all your own electricity without the need to rely on mains power. This electricity could even be used for heating (along with making insulation upgrades, you could greatly reduce the need to heat your home).
Eliminating your water bills is a bit more tricky but is possible. Rain catchment systems and wells are the most traditional ways of harvesting water – with modern technology you can purify this water so that is healthy to drink. Staying connected to the grid could be useful just in case you have to endure a period without much rain. For the most part, however, you could rely off of your own water.
