My blood pressure worries me because I am one person who stresses and worries about most things, normally stupid things that other people wouldn’t bat an eyelid at. I am trying to deal with it, taking deep breaths, telling myself to calm down and that the worst case scenario is not what will happen. But also I am a little over weight and rarely exercise due to a back injury.
I was asked if I would like to review a digital blood pressure monitor and accepted as I knew this might be something that will be used not just for myself and my family but also I have an elderly grandmother who I do worry about a lot, especially as she has had all sorts of problems recently, falls being the main one and this could be due to her blood pressure dipping.
The Cardio Tech Premium Series Digital Blood Pressure Monitor by Ozeri is fantastic. You do not need to be a nurse to use it as it is so simple. There is a booklet inside the box so if you are unsure of what a normal blood pressure is, it has a diagram that tells you exactly what is optimal blood pressure, normal blood pressure, normal systolic value, mild hypertension, moderate hypertension and severe hypertension. It also suggests things like rest for 5-10 minutes before taking your blood pressure, try not to eat, smoke, exercise, bath or drink alcohol or caffeine for around half an hour before taking it as all these things can raise your blood pressure.
To take your blood pressure you place the cuff on your wrist with the display on the inside of your wrist. You lean your elbow onto a table but raise your wrist so it is at heart level and leave your fingers relaxed. Press start and the monitor inflates, like the arm blood pressure monitors the doctors have. You will hear it beeping as it measures your heart beat and it will beep and light up when it as finished.
It has three different coloured indicators, red, orange and green with green meaning normal, orange meaning mild hypertension and red meaning moderate to severe hypertension.
One reading should not be taken as gospel though, and it is better to take readings for a number of days/weeks and if they are all saying the same then go to see a doctor.
The CardioTech also detects an irregular heartbeat too, there is a little heart symbol in the lower centre of the screen and if the heart is filled in and after checking a few times with the same reading it is advised to seek medical advice.
It comes with batteries and has a memory of 40 sets of readings per user. It also have a plastic case to keep the monitor safely in. There is a five year warranty with this product which will definitely give you peace of mind.
We have not used this much yet although I have tried it when I have been stressed and it did go read but after an hour my reading was back to normal.
It is not something I would use every day unless I needed to but I know it would be very handy for pregnant women in the latter stages of pregnancy and it is fantastic to have at home for the elderly to use or those who have blood pressure issues.
It is not very expensive either at on £24.95 which is a small price to pay for added peace of mind in my book.
