When you have children, you’ll want your home to be as safe and child-friendly as possible. Luckily, there are many ways that these issues can be addressed that won’t mean you have to move or compromise on the style you love. Read on to find out more.
Give Them A Playroom
A playroom is a dream come true for many children; it’s a place where they can really be themselves and have fun. They can even make a mess, depending on the general rules that need to be set when a playroom exists.
If you have a spare bedroom, this can be a good playroom – all the kids’ toys can be kept in there, meaning that bedrooms become much calmer spaces, used for sleeping and not much else (helping to reduce bedtime distractions) for example. However, the best place for a playroom is downstairs. This is because you’ll be spending most of your time downstairs, so you’re in a better place to check that the kids are happy and safe.
If there isn’t much space downstairs, consider adding a room to your home through an extension. It doesn’t have to be big, although you may still need Arbtech to help with planning permission. If an extension is your plan, make sure you do it right.
Get Rounded Furniture
One of the biggest reasons children get hurt around the home is that they knock into furniture with sharp edges. This might happen when they are just starting to walk and don’t have perfect balance, or when they are running around and just don’t see the dangers in front of them. Either way, the corners of furniture can cause plenty of injuries.
To minimise that risk, switch your sharp-edged furniture for some with rounded edges. The child might still run or fall into it because accidents sometimes happen no matter how careful people are, but the injuries they could sustain will be less traumatic and severe. If you don’t want to change your furniture, you can invest in some edge protectors that will round off the main edges and make things much safer.
Washable Paint
Even the most well-behaved children can have accidents, as mentioned above, and sometimes those accidents can include drawing on the walls. On most normal walls this could be disastrous, especially if the child was using an indelible kind of ink or a crayon that is hard to remove.
If you have special washable paint on your walls, it really won’t matter if your child makes a mistake and draws on the wall when they were exploring their artistic side; with washable paint, how you deal with the mess itself is easy; you can simply wipe it down, and the mistake is gone.
Rugs
Children will spill things. Adults will also spill things, come to that, although perhaps not quite as often as children will. With this in mind, switching wall-to-wall carpets for wipe-clean floors and rugs that can be much more easily cleaned than a carpet can is ideal. If an accident happens, the clean-up will be quick.
Another benefit of having rugs is that you can easily change the look of any room simply by installing a new rug.
