Often it’s easy to choose a child’s birthday gift. You buy them a bicycle, the newest Nintendo or PS4 video game, a Barbie Doll or Lego set, maybe a bunch of cute clothes.

Let’s face it, most of the kids in our lives have already read the Harry Potter series and are familiar with every trilogy, series or set of books that becomes popular every few years.
Why not engage them with a book series they’ve never heard of – something suited to their interests, informative and fun, maybe by a local author or a writer from a country or culture they are interested in? It’s as easy as a visit to your local bookshop to get input from your bookseller. Children love to feel as though they’ve discovered something, and a new book series to immerse themselves in, that they can then recommend to their friends, is a touching gift idea that foster a love of reading and will give them years of pleasure.
