So what has happened since November 24th and now with Zander? He will be 8 months old on 22nd January so I will get completely up to date with this update. Sorry it is an all in one and later than expected he demands quite a bit of my time and by the time he goes to bed I am shattered.
Let’s start with weaning;
At 6 months old he was really good having vegetables and I started adding chicken in along with it and he did like it, until those two teeth appeared and then he refused point blank any vegetables of any kind. Obviously I offered it every other day as an alternative to fruit pots, homemade fruit purees, porridge and yogurt but it just wasn’t happening.
We do try him with a bit of baby led weaning too and Christmas day we put some vegetables in front of him, things he would eat pre-teeth he picked a carrot stick up bit a piece off and then gagged on it and screamed the place down like we were poisoning him so we reverted back to fruity things for another week or so.
He has tried crumpets, toast with Dairylea on it, white chocolate, chocolate digestives, fries from McDonalds, croissants, sandwiches and other small tasters during 6-8 months which he seemed to enjoy.
This week we again tried him with chicken and vegetables from my frozen batch I had made and surprisingly he ate every single bit of it. I was shocked but also very pleased that he ate it. A couple of days later again I tried him with it and again he ate it. So it does look like he has got his appetite back and he is now eating his vegetables again. Phew. I was getting a bit worried about him not eating them.
Christmas day kind of sucked if I am honest with you. We all started with a cold on the Friday and we all felt terrible and Zander, although he didn’t have the dripping nose like we all had I think he had a sore throat and was rather grumpy all day, when he wasn’t grumping he was asleep. Christmas was a complete wash out. What was supposed to be a fantastic first Christmas watching him opening his presents (with help) and playing with the wrapping paper turned in to a crying frenzy and no interest in presents at all. Luckily Boxing day he was a little happier.
Sleeping/Napping – Zander is having two naps a day usually one around 9-10am after his breakfast and then one around 1-3pm depending on when he is tired. His morning nap consists of about 10-15 minute cat nap. His afternoon nap he can go from 30 minutes – 2 hours.
Bedtime has changed a little, we are not putting him to bed as early now unless he has had an early afternoon nap or a quick nap. We try to hold him off until between 6:30pm-7:30pm sometimes 8pm depending on how tired and cranky he is. He will then play in his cot for a good 20 minutes, rolling on his tummy then creating until one of us go to him and turn him over. He will then fall asleep and sleep til 5-6am every morning. Obviously we do have the odd night where he thinks 3am is a good time to get up but that is usually if he is a little poorly or his teeth are playing up or the dreaded sleep regression and leaps happen.
Teething – no new teeth as yet but the top two are very close to coming through I can see the white at the edge of the gum I can honestly say I think they will be through within the next week. He hasn’t been that bad with teething pain, just every now and then. He does get little pink cheeks but not rosy red.
He is still not sitting unaided for more than two minutes, he doesn’t fold in half anymore but he has learnt that if he lays on the floor he can get from one side of the room to the other really quickly by rolling. So every time I try to sit him up he ends up leaning to his side so he can lie on the floor and roll. Changing his nappies are also a pain now as it is another opportunity for him to get rolling again. What used to take a couple of minutes now takes at least 10 minutes as we have to keep grabbing him.
We have words from Zander now. His first word was guy guy which we thought at first was dad dad, but after a while we worked out he was saying his sisters name Skye. He can also say mum mum which started off bah bah bum bum but is now sounding more mum mum than bum bum haha. This last week or so he has learnt gag gag which is dad dad. He is definitely coming on in leaps and bounds.
His favourite things to do is blowing raspberries and playing with tags and tickets.
Last week he weight 20lb 4oz and he is 74cm long, he is going to be tall. He never went through a chubby baby stage he has always been long and quite lean.
One thing I have noticed from loads of baby groups is how competitive parents can be. My baby can do this, mine can do that. It drives me bonkers. All babies are different, they do things in their own time, and judging others parenting, ugh I’m too old for that drama, really!
Anyway this has been quite a long update so I will leave it there.
Can you believe Zander will be 8 months in a few days. Where has the time gone?
I think it is time to start trying for a little brother or sister for him?!
Look out for the fertility diaries coming soon.
