I used to love card games when I was a child, this was way before the internet was discovered though and now it seems that my family’s life revolves around the internet these days, even my 8 year old daughter can be found playing internet games or watching Minecraft YouTube videos.
As part of the Book Buddies programme with Parragon we received Professor Murphy’s Card Game Box Set to review and I thought it would be perfect to get everyone off their computer devices for a while.

‘Become a card game connoisseur in an instant with Professor Murphy’s Card Games box set. Inside, you will find 2 packs of playing cards, a score pad, pencil and a 32 page instruction book. Learn how to shuffle, deal and win over 25 classic card games and tricks.’
Now my daughter had no clue how to play any card games apart from snap so this was a completely new and exciting adventure for her. I didn’t want her to start with anything too difficult so I decided Pontoon also called 21 was the easiest game for her to start with. I explained to her that all picture cards were worth 10 and the ace could be counted as an 11 or a 1 and she had to get as near to the number 21 as she could without going over that number by saying either twist if she needed more cards, stick if she wanted to stay with what she had or bust if she went over.

It wasn’t long before she got the concept of playing properly and she really enjoyed playing ‘grown up’ games with mum, dad and her big sister.
Once I was satisfied she had got that game sussed out properly we tried Old Maid, I remember this game from my childhood and it is an easy game to play. Again it wasn’t long before she picked this up and she was well on her way to mastering it.
There are still a lot of different card games that she can learn from this box set but I did not want to bombard her with too many all at once.
At the moment she is getting the cards out of her own accord and asking to play which is fantastic as it means she has taken an interest in it.
You can purchase Professor Murphy’s Card Game box set from Amazon, priced at around £4.60.
