There is much to be said about the power of a good smile.
You can win other people over to you with a friendly smile, be that a potential new boss at a job interview, a neighbour who has just moved next door to you, or any other person that you are trying so desperately hard to impress. A good smile will also lift up those friends who are feeling down or lift you up when you are in need of your own boost of self-confidence. A smile can also showcase your inner and outer beauty.
However, if you are reluctant to smile, perhaps because you have crooked teeth or a chipped tooth here and there, then you won’t experience the benefits. So, if this is the case for you, consider the following tips.
#1: Visit your dentist
Here’s a no-brainer, but if you do have specific problems with your teeth, then your dentist will give you the advice you need. He or she will suggest ways to fix your crooked teeth, such as the use of invisible braces that you won’t be embarrassed to wear, and crowns or fillings that can do much to hide any damage. Your dentist will also advise you on the foods you should be eating (more below), and the correct ways to brush and floss your teeth for long-term dental care. So, if you have been putting off that all-important appointment to correct your teeth, you might want to finally pluck up the courage and pick up your phone.
#2: Find ways to whiten your teeth
Your dentist can certainly help on this one, but if you want to avoid paying the dental fee involved, you can also whiten your teeth at home with a teeth bleaching kit. There are also foods you might want to consider, as certain types can naturally whiten your teeth. Strawberries, apples, carrots, and celery are just some of the foods that can make your teeth shine. Brushing with baking soda is another way to achieve a whiter smile (even if it does taste gross), and rubbing fruit peel on your teeth (orange, lemon, or banana) has also proven effective for some. Of course, you can also pick up a tube of teeth-whitening toothpaste at your local supermarket, so add that to your shopping list, along with your strawberries, oranges, and baking soda.
#3: Use your common sense
For starters, cut back (or quit) those bad habits that will eventually discolour your teeth. We are, of course, talking about smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating sweets and other sugary items. You should also be smart about the things you chew. If you know your teeth are brittle and liable to break, go easy on hard toffees, chocolate bars straight out of the fridge, and any other items that are hard for your teeth to break into. And get into the daily habit of brushing and flossing too, as you will protect your teeth from further damage if you do. These are all preventative steps, but even if your teeth are not looking their best at the moment, you will do much to limit any further damage from taking place. Combine these good habits with our other tips above.
We haven’t discussed every possible solution here, but there is plenty of advice to be found online. Have a look, and then do whatever you can to fix and improve your beautiful smile.
Take care, and thanks for reading!
