If you had read my ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ post you would have seen that I didn’t not make many resolutions at all but one thing I did want to do was move more. To help with this giffgaff sent me a Fitbit zip to review and I new this would be a great deal of help.

A Fitbit zip is a wireless activity tracker and in the pack is;
Tracker
Clip
Battery
Wireless USB dongle
Battery tool
Free Fitbit account
It is a fantastic tool for getting you motivated to move more as it measures steps, distance and calories burned.
It is so simple to use, on both PC and as an app on your phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I just went on the app store searched for Fitbit and it was downloaded in less than a minute. I found setting it up really quick and easy to do too as is the PC version.

I prefer to track my progress through my mobile as it is always with me and for a free app it is really good as it shows you your progress in charts and graphs which you can share. I like that you can add friends and compete with them on how many steps you do a day, this gives even more motivation as I am quite a competitive person. I usually compete against my husband and I cannot have him beat me but it is fun as well as competitive.

When you have reached certain goals Fitbit award you badges for that particular goal. This in itself is even more reason to walk a little more than I would normally.

The Fitbit zip is a small monitor and I did worry that I may lose it when out and about but I needn’t have worried, the clip for this is really study and it does not open up a lot so it fits snug onto my jean pocket without moving around. This is a Bluetooth device and it needs to be paired to the phone you are using, again this takes a few seconds. To be honest you do not need to have this syncing to your phone a lot during the day as this has a full display on the monitor but syncing once a day will make sure it is all on the app or computer so you can keep track and compare your daily activities. You can also log food you have eaten and any exercise or activity you have done so you will know how many calories you have eaten and how many have been burned.

The great thing I have found with the Fitbit zip apart from all the great things I have already mentioned is that when you are on track for your 10000 steps per day with will get a smily face shown on the monitor. At first it starts off with a regular happy face but when you are doing good you get one of these 😀 which puts me in a good mood and gives me more encouragement to keep that smile there.

I have used a few different activity trackers in the past, pedometers being the main but also other lesser known brands of activity trackers that I found did not step up to the mark in one way or the other, not registering steps and some that had their own mobile phone apps just too difficult to use but this by far is the best I have found with the ease to use with both wearing it and using the app or website. Plus it is sweat, rain and splash proof.
I would definitely recommend the Fitbit zip to anyone for all the above and I think it is a good price as it is reliable and it does so much.

I like activity trackers for motivation. Mind you my similar product to the Fitbit that I was using is in my drawer. I really should get it out and use it.
