I like to knit when I get some time so at the weekend and after buying myself some super dooper mega expensive knitting needles which my husband almost died of shock when he saw the price, I could finally get onto knitting my first ever bag.
My needles are Knit Pro Nova Metal Interchangeable Circular Needles Deluxe Set, the set costs £40.85 and are Brass Ni-Plated Needle Tips which come in 8 sizes, 3.5mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.0mm, 7.0mm, 8.0mm which are the main needle sizes I will be using. They also come with 4 interchangeable needle cables, 60cm, 80cm, 100cm& 120cma case to hold them in and 8 End caps with 4 allen keys.
I didn’t stop there though, some patterns I have looked at particularly cowls require chunky needles and as you can see the deluxe set only has needles going up to size 8.0mm, so I also bought Knit Pro Symfonie Wood Interchangeable Circular Needles Chunky Set which cost £24.99. These are wooden needles but ever so smooth and pretty colours too. In this set there sizes 9mm, 10mm and 12mm needles, 3 cables(60cm, 80cm and 120cm)6 end caps with 3 allen keys and a plastic wallet.

Ok so I have spent a small fortune on needles but I am so glad I did, I have only worked with a pair for 5.5mm Nova’s so far but knitting with them is such a better experience. They glide better, handle better and for big work I do not need needles that are half a metre long to do it as the cables come in various sizes.
I have never attempted to knit a bag before or changed colour so this was going to be a little challenge for me.
I actually found it really easy reading the pattern, which was in the latest addition of LGC Knitting & Crochet and they also gifted the wool and knitting needles. The needles were wooden and were giving me blisters when knitting this was the main reason I purchased the Knit Pro needles.
Before I knew it I had completed both sides and the handles. The flower on the other hand I struggled with. I just could not get my head around the pattern, it said to clever knit and explained how to do that but I read it and still could not make head nor tale of it. In the end I followed the pattern and improvised with the clever knit bit needed to be done.
I sewed it all together and sewed the flower on last.

I am quite proud of it as I have previously only knitted baby cardigans and scarves.
My youngest daughter loves it and immediately asked if she could have it and it is now being filled with I don’t know what.
This has given me the confidence to knit more bags and other things besides scarves and cardigans. I might try making the bag in different colours next or make it a little bigger. We shall see.
My next project will be to learn to crochet a granny square. Wish me luck!
