Spending a lot of money on furniture can seem quite frivolous – isn’t there a cheaper, flat-pack option available that’ll do for now?
However, while you may have to stretch your finances to buy a high-quality piece of furniture now, you’re probably going to end up saving a lot more money in the long run.
Why?
Cheaper furniture isn’t made to last. It’s made to stick with the latest trends, put up with a bit of wear and tear, then be easily replaced when something else comes into fashion. It’s not effective, nor is it environmentally-friendly!
So what furniture is worth investing in and how can you make sure it doesn’t go out of style?

A Bed that Lasts Forever
You spend a heck of a lot of time in bed, so this should be where some of your investment goes. You’ll want one that boasts a solid construction and is comfortable, considering its firmness, size and what it’s made from. The best way to find one is to head to your nearest store to try some out with different mattresses, too.
Try to opt for a classic, neutral style that won’t date, e.g. one with a headboard that’s both elegant and covered in a pale fabric.

A Classic Dining Room Table and Chairs
Another thing you’re going to spend a lot of time doing is dining as a family. So, a great dining room table and chairs (or kitchen table) is a must.
When it comes to the style of table, you might want to keep things timeless again so as to avoid any changes in fashion. And it may also be a good idea to invest in an extendable style so the table can grow with your family or accommodate extra guests that may come round.
Choose stylish, comfortable chairs to go with your dining table. These chairs can be how you add a touch of colour or style to the room, whether you opt for fabric-covered designs or ones with leather seats. You might also benefit from armchair-style chairs for both ends of the table as these will double-up as handy extra living room seating when you’ve got people round.

A Comfy Sofa
Sofas are available in a whole host of different styles, colours, sizes and prices. So try to find the one that suits you best and is within your budget. Make sure the frame of the sofa is solid and the seats are comfortable and durable.
Other practical things to consider are the cushions (how easy are they going to be to straighten up every time you’ve sat on them) and a neutral colour (this is easy to adapt to changing trends with throws and cushions).
These three items are staples within any home and splashing out on these while cutting costs with our pieces of furniture will help you make life-long investments.
