So the no heating saga continues. We had a phone call this afternoon to let us know the boiler part was with the courier but hadn’t been delivered yet so we would not have our heating fixed until Monday. We were asked if we would like some heaters dropped off and I said yes because it is OK for me and my husband to suffer all day in the cold but with it being all weekend with no heating I can’t have the kids too cold.
When they turned up with the “heaters” it turned out they were only giving us one. This house is an old house some 70 plus years old, it is a large house too that has not had any decent heating apart from the coal fire which really doesn’t give off that much heat for 4 days now, it is like an igloo, the walls, door handles, toilet seat and even my plates are so cold and the heater which I have named the toaster is not going to heat anything up apart from the air directly above it. As soon as I saw it I told my husband we were going shopping for something else to warm us up.
I saw a lovely electric blanket in Morrison’s but I thought it was a little selfish to buy it for our bed when I couldn’t afford to get one for each of the children and I am a bit dubious of them. I also saw a halogen heater which again looked so nice and warm but again I would buy it for just this once and it is a lot of expense on something used for the next two days and then put away never to be used again.
I ended up buying some fleece blankets because they are portable so where ever the kids go in the house they can have it round them and a new water bottle for the youngest so her bed will be warmed up before she gets in it.
I actually can’t believe that when I was a child we never had heating upstairs at all and the only heating we had downstairs was the gas fire, how the heck did we cope with the really cold weather?
Hopefully Monday I will post a happy post stating that I am so warm with my heating working again.
My house, till we moved when I was 9, had only gas fires downstairs and I think one electric heater upstairs. Don’t really remember being cold though. Now though I am far too used to central heating. Hope it is sorted soon.

think its a matter when we were young of not missing what you never had, I know when we were children staying at my paternal grandparents we use to love the electric blanket we had that warmed the bed before we got in, and we would get dressed in front of the aga in a morning.
we heat this house with 2 convector heaters like that, our heating system is an expensive joke

Oh yes definitely, we didn’t have it so didn’t miss it. Luckily when our heating is actually working it is really cheap to run as it recycles air or something. I must admit that I did misjudge the little heater, I have put it upstairs on the landing and it has warmed it up a lot more than I thought it would.
