Degustabox | May 2016

Every month we have received a Degustabox to review, they are great boxes full of various foods and drinks which are a surprise until you open the box.  We feel that is it a great way to discover new foods and drinks. It is a monthly subscription box and worth trying out.

Here is what we received in May’s Degustabox;

 

Jack Daniel’s – Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Barbecue Glaze is infused with the soft flavours of the popular Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Liqueur, giving the glaze a hint of honey and a delicious, smooth flavour. Create luxuriously sticky, sweet ribs and glistening chicken wings or simply use as a dip for wedges, or veggies. Available from Tesco stores nationwide, RRP £1.99.

My husband loves the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Barbecue Glaze, we have tried it before and it is great not only as a dip, with chips but also really nice with a little added inside a burger. We always bring it out when we have a barbecue as all of the family like it.

 

Garofalo – Fusilli Bucati Corti, a corkscrew shaped pasta, is one of the many great shapes available in the UK from Italian pasta maker Garofalo. Made from only high quality durum wheat and shaped using a bronze die gives Garofalo pasta its premium taste and texture; and not forgetting the Italian passion, which is why those who choose Garofalo pasta can be sure of enjoying a great experience!

Pasta is a firm favourite for most of the family we use it for a multitude of meals including pasta bake. To be honest though I find all pasta tastes about the same and this was not really any different from the one I get from the supermarket. It tasted like pasta and it was eaten so that is the main thing.

 

Cranes – Cranes is a 4% alcoholic drink that is brewed purely from crushed cranberries with added juice for real flavour. It comes in three distinctive flavours: Original Cranberry, Raspberry & Pomegranate and Strawberry & Kiwi. The product is 100% natural, high in juice (16.5%+). We received Original Cranberry and Strawberry & Kiwi flavours and I was in my element having not had an alcoholic drink for over 9 months. My favourite was the Strawberry & Kiwi, it was very fruity and tasty. It went down very well.

 

Kallø – Kallø Belgian Milk Chocolate Corn Cakes A guilt free mid-morning treat or an afternoon bite, these chocolatey corn cakes are made with the highest quality ingredients, suitable for vegetarians and are also coeliac friendly. At only 78 calories per corn cake, they make a delicious snack that satisfies any chocolate craving. Alternatively transform into an indulgent pudding, by dollop ing on some whipped cream, handful of juicy raspberries and a drizzle of honey – delicious!

My daughter does like to snack so we are changing a lot of her snacks for more healthier options. These were the perfect alternative for her, especially because they had chocolate on the top. She said they were delicious and we have since bought more to continue the healthy eating.

 

Get Fruity – Get Fruity is an award-winning fruit and oat bar that has a high percentage of the named fruit making it authentically fruity. Get Fruity contains gluten free oats & virgin coconut oil with no added refined sugars, produced on a nut free site and is 100% natural. Get Fruity comes in six fruity flavours.

You can really taste the fruit in this, we received a Strawberry one and it was so fruity and delicious. It is a shame there was only one bar in the box as I did really like them.

 

Beloved Dates – Gluten, wheat and dairy free, our unique Date Nectar is made from 100% pure dates, absolutely nothing else! Great as a topping on porridge, pancakes or as an alternative to sugar in home baking, it offers a delicious, naturally sweet caramel taste, and unlike honey, is suitable for vegans.

I do not like Dates, nor do the family so we haven’t tried this.

 

The Wonderful Company –  Wonderful Almonds are sun ripened in our Californian orchards. Our high quality almonds have a sweet, mild flavour and crunchy texture. Ideal for snacking and cooking. Taste the California difference.

Wonderful Pistachios are sun ripened in our Californian orchards. We select only the largest pistachios and roast them to perfection in different flavours. Taste the California difference.

The pistachios were gorgeous, there was not one pistachio in the pack that had a shell that was hard to open. They were perfect. I am not keen on almonds but my daughter and husband eat them and they said they were really crunchy as as they had expected them to be.

 

Pechkeks fortune cookies –  Black cookies, black humour: ideal for Lucky Luke’s, Bad-Luck Brian’s, super women and high flyers, crybabies and wussy wimps, iron ladies and tough guys. These cookies are like a left hook: because you can be sure that they won’t predict eternal love or unimaginable wealth. The messages are crude, truthful and direct – the glimpse into the future, brutally honest and pessimistic. So you’re left with no choice but to take them with a sense of humour. A black fortune cookie is a novelty in itself but the paper inside gave us a good laugh. I was worried while eating the cookie that I may end up with a black mouth but luckily that didn’t happen. They were really tasty.

 

Pomegreat – In our California orchards, we grow only the Wonderful variety of pomegranates: the variety we feel produces the sweetest and best-tasting juice. We harvest our pomegranates when they are a deep ruby red and bursting with flavour. Using our special recipe, we enhance the unique pomegranates with aronia juice from concentrate for a delicious and refreshing fruit drink the whole family will enjoy. POMEGREAT… YOU CAN TASTE THE CARE AND SUNSHINE IN EVERY DROP.

We love pure pomegranate juice but this drink was not pure juice, it had a lot of water in it and it didn’t taste as nice as we had thought it would.

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

Brioche Pasquier – A traditional French breakfast wouldn’t be the same without an all butter croissant. These delicious croissants are free from preservatives, hydrogenated fats and artificial colours. Wrapped by two, these croissants stay fresher for longer and can be eaten on the go. Can be enjoyed warm.

Warm croissants on a Sunday morning is the best and therefore we had these on a Sunday morning as a special breakfast. They were very buttery and taste gorgeous warm. We will definitely be treating ourselves to these again.
