Now the weather has finally decided to kick into Spring it means new clothing especially for my little girl who seems to be popping out of last year’s Spring Summer wear even though I buy a size bigger than she needs. I usually spend a fair amount of money when it comes to clothing the entire family for the new season. I do not buy myself or my husband as much as we can get away with wearing last year’s clothes but the children would look like street urchins if I didn’t buy for them.
Like most parents though we do not have the money to buy a whole season of clothing in one go unless we use credit cards. I like that if we spend money on the card we also earn credit card rewards, which is a point system that we can redeem again different things so we do get something out of it as well.
It is not just clothing though. As we live in a small village with no public transport and we are not within walking distance to anywhere we need our car to be working and healthy at all times for getting our daughter to school, shopping etc. When it goes wrong we need to know we have the security of if it needs fixing we have a way of paying for it and with the usual bills and costs a month and the car usually needing a costly sum of money spent on it we would not be able to get it fixed without a credit card.
There are so many credit cards to choose from now and you could be hopping from website to website for hours or even days to find the best card. I found that going to a comparison site to compare credit cards is much easier than hopping from site to site as it compares a lot of cards at one time so you can find one that suits you. Luckily I have found a suitable one for me and it has been a life saver with my car issues.
I find it funny when I think back to when I had my first job my wages would be paid into my bank and as soon as pay day came I would rush to the ATM and get my money out leaving just enough for the bills. Whenever I went shopping I paid cash. I saved up if I wanted anything I think everything was paid for by cash with people having huge wallets or purses and men’s trouser pockets rattling with loose change. Times have changed though saving up for anything is hard when you have a family and these days I do not know anyone who is a parent that carries cash around.
I am not sure if this is because people are worried about having their purse stolen? Perhaps they just like the freedom of a credit card where you can use it anywhere, it is one card so you do not have to take wads of cash out with you, and obviously it is much safer if your card is lost or stolen you just need to contact the company and they will cancel the card. You will not lose any money and a new card will be sent. If you carry cash you do not get that. Once it’s gone there is no way of recovering it.
This is exactly why I have credit cards they are a much safer option. Honestly if you looked in my purse right now you would find maybe £3 at the most which is my “car park fund” and of course my credit card.
