My son Zander loves his little train we reviewed a little while ago so when we were asked if we would like to review the BRIO Cargo Railway Deluxe Set it was a no-brainer as I knew he would absolutely love it.
The Cargo Railway Deluxe Set comes in a green plastic box which is great as when not in use everything can be stored in the box.
Upon opening the box up I found 54 pieces of the railway set, tracks, trains, cranes and more, they were all wrapped in bags. The train tracks were thick wooden tracks.
The first thing we did, yes Zander insisted on helping me, was unwrap all the pieces and laying them out so we knew what was there.
Once we had done that I took a look at the instructions to see how the railway set went together and set about fixing it in place, but me being me and not really looking at the track more clearly came to a stumbling block…the pieces that made the track go into two tracks did not fit, it was frustrating me, had I been sent the wrong bits. I took the whole track apart and tried again, nope still not fitting together. Then after about 15-20 minutes I just flipped the piece of track over and felt such a plum, yes folks the underside was track too. We did have a laugh over that!
Eventually, the railway track was complete and it was time to place the trains, cargo containers and lorry on the track. It looked perfect, but wait, why were the wheels of this train not rolling like the others. After a quick look at the other part of the instructions we learnt that this particular train needed a battery, this was not supplied but takes 1 AA battery.
We popped the battery into the freight train and pressed the switch at the top, press its front end and it will run forward, press it back end and it goes backwards, press it in the centre to stop it.
When pressed on to go forward the little train shines its headlight. This really impressed Zander, it was a moving train.
The cranes both have magnets on so the cargo actually sticks to it and you can move them around.
It really is the perfect first train set for any child, toddlers in particular. There are no sharp edges to it at all, the track is thick wood so no chance of it ever getting broken and it is just amazing. I know Zander loves it and will actually sit and play with it for ages at a time.
The Brio Cargo Railway Deluxe Set is suitable for age 3+ and it’s RRP £114.99 which I think is a great price for something that will last year upon year because it is made so well.
We would definitely recommend it.
