Boost Your Home’s Kerb Appeal

 

I bet you spend a lot of time transforming your home’s interior, choosing the best possible paint and furniture for each room, picking out the ideal accessories and generally keeping the place clean and tidy, but what about the outdoors? Most of us make an effort to keep the lawn trimmed and the garden neat, but we do very little else to make our hone’s exterior look as pretty as possible.

This is such a shame because kerb appeal is really important, not only because it makes your home look even more amazing and enjoyable for you when you’re outside but also because it can boost the value of your home and attract more buyers if you’re ever looking to sell.

Okay, but what can you do to boost your home’s kerb appeal? Here are a few ideas:

 

Painting or cladding

Your walls make up the bulk of your home’s exterior so it makes sense to start with them when you’re on a mission to boost kerb appeal. A fresh lick of paint can really brighten the place up and make it look as good as new, but you may also want to consider cladding your walls with wood or stone too, depending on the effect you want to get. Wooden cladding looks really modern and sleek, whereas stone cladding can give your home a more traditional look – think about what you want your home to say and choose your wall treatments accordingly.

 

Get a new front door

The front door if the smile on the face of your home and the point of welcome for guests so it is never a bad idea to replace or revamp your existing door if you want to boost kerb appeal. These days you can get stained glass front doors solid oak front doors, bright pink front doors… and well pretty much any kind of front door imaginable, so choose something a bit unusual for a simple design touch that will get your home noticed.

 

Plant some pretty flowers

If you haven’t already, brighten up your home and make it look well taken care of by planting lots of colourful flowers. You can install window boxes, hang baskets above the doorway, line the driveway with buds and place containers filled with flowers on either side of the front door and your home’s exterior will instantly look 100 percent more amazing.

 

Repaint fences and gates

There’s not a lot more to say about this one other than gates and fences that have been freshly painted and treated will look a million times better than old ones that have been battered by the elements and left in a state of disrepair, so do something about it.

 

Think about lighting

Lighting gives your home’s exterior a warm glow in the evenings so you can make a lot of difference by adding it whether you wrap fairy lights around your trees or in your bushes, place lanterns on the porch or line the driveway with solar lights. The more ambient lighting around your home, the lovelier it will look.
