Everyone has their perfect home, but it’s unlikely that you and your partner share the same vision for the home of your dreams. When looking to upsize, it’s always worth having a discussion that will outline what you both want from a house.
This can save any disappointment and arguments and allow you to find something that suits both of you. Perhaps you want a country farmhouse, but they want something more metropolitan. Talking beforehand will let you find a nice balance in between.
Old or New?
Old homes come with the history and the character, but they are also not as energy-efficient compared to a new build. These are not the advantages of buying a new build house, and there are plenty of reasons to consider a new property over an old one.
However, there are also plenty of reasons to look for old homes. You’ll need to think about upkeep, location, energy efficiency, and the potential for upgrading. As some old houses can be smaller, you might want to add an extension or renovate the kitchen, but this may not be possible.
