This is post number two of the Fertility Diaries. If you missed post one you can read it here
After about 12 months of trying for a baby we decided it was time to see the doctor and work out why it hadn’t happened.
Our GP, a man wasn’t very sympathetic really but did full blood work on me, plus a smear test and everything thing came back normal. My husband had a semen analysis test done which came back normal or very good for someone that had a vasectomy reversal. So still we were puzzled as to why it wasn’t happening as we were both in good working order.
We were told come back in another 6 months if it still wasn’t happening and the doctor would refer us. We were hoping we wouldn’t reach another 6 months and we ried the ClearBlue Fertility Monitor to better our chances just in case we were missing the optimal times to ‘baby dance’.
The CBFM was great and picked up the changes in hormone levels and when I was ovulating but unfortunately we had no success other than we knew that I was ovulating and when.
I also tried BBT charting in case the CBFM got it wrong but the charts showed the same as the CBFM.
Our next step at 18 months of trying for a baby was seeing the GP again to get a referral to the Fertility Clinic.
The first appointment was booked really quickly we were only waiting about 3 or 4 weeks. This appointment again involved more tests, bloods and swabs again, urine sample checked and weight checked. All pretty run of the mill, poking and prodding kind of thing that I was becoming accustom to.
We saw our consultant and he diagnosed Unexplained Secondary Infertility and was told we could have 3 months of Clomid with trigger shots (HCG injections).
With the Clomid and regular ultrasounds (or as I now call it dildocam as it is an internal ultrasound) to check my ovaries to make sure that they were not over stimulated (OHSS) I was producing around 4-6 eggs per cycle and they were to all be released through the trigger shot and were told when we should have intercourse so it would better our chances. The only thing I didn’t like was the trigger shots as it is injected in the top of your bum/hip and it is a horrible stinging one.
I was very positive that this would work especially with 4-6 targets to hit and once the 3 months were over and I was still not pregnant it all began to get a little disheartening.
