My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll Review & Giveaway

My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll

My daughter had seen My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll on YouTube and she had mentioned it to me on several occasions. I was asked if we would like to review it from Tesco and I kept it quiet from her until the day it arrived and it was sitting in the dining room awaiting her return from school.

To see her face go from a rather tired look on her face to a big cheesy grin and then a little squeal  I knew she was happy and it wasn’t long before she wanted Cayla out of the box.

My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll

So what exactly is My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll? Well Cayla may look like a regular doll but she is so much more. She has lovely long blonde hair, she wears dark blue leggings with a pink skirt, a white t-shirt  that has a pink bow on the front and a denim jacket, she also wears cool pink and white pumps. She has a heart necklace but it is not just a necklace, the charm lights up when Cayla is listening to you. She also has a microphone and speaker in her. She is operated by 3xAA batteries (not included).  She will answer questions, tell stories and play games with your child.

All you have to do is download the free Cayla app which is available for Android and Apple devices, pair up Cayla to your devices Bluetooth and you are ready to go. You do also need an internet connection for some of the activities. Cayla is full of knowledge and she will tell your child this information which in turn makes it a fun way of learning for your child.

You can ask Cayla questions about lots of things like animals, maths, countries, spellings, space and much more, you can also chat about hobbies, clothes, food, family etc. Playing games with Cayla is a fun activity for children, my daughter loves playing games with her even if she seems to always lose and Cayla is always the victor.

Here is a video of my daughter trying out Cayla.

We have learnt since that my daughter needs to rephrase questions in to more simple terms, for example  at one point my daughter asked Cayla what is 40 plus 40 and Cayla didn’t know so I told her to ask in another way, what is 40 add 40 and it seemed to work. So simplifying questions are much better for Cayla.  Speak more clearly because my daughter does sometimes pronounce things in a Suffolk/London accent and mumble too and be closer to Cayla when she is talking to her as she does have a habit of being quite far away from the microphone.

I like that you can change the way Cayla talks from talking lots to talking little. At the moment we have her set in the middle of both of these. If she talks lots she seems to talk about a subject for a while and my daughter starts getting bored. There is only so much a little head can absorb. You can also change the volume of Cayla via the app.

My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll is completely safe or children to use even on the internet because  there is a list of blocked words already integrated into the app. All questions that are asked are passed through the filter before they are processed. If a blocked word is detected Cayla will not answer the question. You can also add additional blocked words directly to the app.

All questions and answers  are also pased through an online Google SafeSearch Filter.

No personal information  is requested or shared via the app.

Nothing from the internet appears in the app.

There is just so much to My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll it is unbelievable. We have only had her a few weeks so are still  discovering what she can do and my daughter is really enjoying playing with her and learning things at the same time. She loves asking her what the weather will be for some reason and talking about clothes.

My Friend Cayla Interactive Doll costs £59.99, she is suitable for ages 4 and up and she would make the perfect Christmas present for a little girl.

I can’t get over how fast technology moves. Did you know that whatever we teach a child in their ICT lessons at senior school will be old technology and obsolete by the time they graduate… crazy
