Taking a babies temperature can be quite bothersome, the in-ear thermometers are great in some respects but when you have a baby flailing in pain it can be difficult to get them to hold still long enough for you to put the thermometer in their ear and wait for it to come back with the correct temperature. I was asked if I’d like to review the Withings Thermo Smart Temporal Thermometer and I could not wait to try it and see if it made life easier with taking the temperature of my son.
It arrived quickly and I had a look at the instructions and specifications of the thermometer. Inside the box is the Withings Thermo which includes batteries (2 x AAA), Quick Installation Guide and Regulatory information booklet.
The first thing you have to do when you get it is go onto the Withings website and follow the instructions to install the Withings Thermo app, I found this very easy to do and installed it onto my phone in next to no time.
Once you have set it up you are ready to go, using the Withings Thermo really is easy work and it take less time too. Your baby won’t even realise you are taking their temperature.
Just take the end cap off of the thermometer, press the button to turn it on, starting from the middle of the forehead scan the thermometer across to the temple. Once the thermometer has a measurement it will vibrate and the temperature will show on it. You can then swipe it down to find the family member you wish to assign this temperature to.
When the temperature is taken it will give a coloured LED, Green is no fever, Orange is mild fever and Red for high fever. If your child has a fever you can keep checking its temperature throughout the day, all measurements are recorded on the app.
The app is fantastic as you can add all of the family members and it includes date of birth as we all know that newborn babies and 3-36 month children have a different fever point than 3 years and up.
Teething has been hard on my son and there have been several times he has felt hot to touch, I can sit him on my knee and take his temperature with the Withings Thermo and it takes less than 30 seconds and is not uncomfortable for him at all.
Here are some of the temperature readings I have had from the Thermo since we received it;
Obviously no temperature was found but it is a great reassurance for us. If he did have a temperature and it kept up for a long while the app is a perfect thing to show your doctor so he can see exactly what their temperature has been like. You can also add personal notes, symptoms, treatments on it. For example if I gave Calpol I would pop that on their and it would show when I last gave it. This can be good when you forget what time their last dose was too.
You can choose to have the Thermo take the temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius and customise it to how you want it, e.g meters or feet/inches for height.
I really like this thermometer, it is very much like the new ones that they use in the hospitals now, it is a lot less invasive as the ear ones, especially for babies and small children and I like how all the temperatures are stored on the app and easy to look at all together just by opening the app and selecting the member of the family you are wishing to track. It is suitable for up to 8 people.
I would most definitely recommend the Withings Thermo it has proved quite invaluable for me and my family.
It costs €99.95 but I would say that it is well worth the investment and it will last for many years. For more information visit the Withings website.
