It is that time of year when my home insurance is due for renewal. Now usually I would do nothing so it just starts up again when the year is over. So this time I decided I would compare home insurance just to see what I could get that is better than what I am getting at the moment.
I now have a lot more things in my home, different new gadgets, computers, dishwasher, more TVs, things that I didn’t have a few years ago and my personal belongings that I carry around with me everywhere are more valuable than they were a few years ago. With the latest mobile phone amongst other things plus other mobile phones and gadgets that the family take with them we need to make sure we are covered for those as well. Things that we would struggle to replace due to the cost of them.
I also wanted to make sure I was covered for spoiled food in the freezer if we had a power cut for a certain length of time. Why you may ask, well the reason for this was a few years ago before we moved here we were prone to power cuts anyway but one week in February there were very high winds and it knocked our power out which we thought it would only last a few hours at the least.
It took three long days to get the power to go back on again and in that time most of the food was ruined. We couldn’t cook it during the power cut as we were an all-electric property and the amount of food we lost was in the range of £200. However we were not covered on our contents insurance for it. So we lost all the food.
We still live in the countryside now so again power cuts are inevitable however they only last around thirty minutes but again we are all-electric so want peace of mind that we are covered if it ever happens again.
