My family love cake, who doesn’t? If I had it my way we would have celebrations every week so we could have cake. We were offered a Letterbox cake of our choice to review from the lovely people at bakerdays. As it was Skye’s birthday coming up at the time we requested one for her.
What is a Letterbox cake?
It is a small 5-inch celebration cake for just one or two people. It may be small but it’s thoughtful and personalised. It is portable and yes, it actually does fit through a letterbox. It’s just the perfect gift to give or send.
Having a look on the bakerdays website I found it a hard choice on what design to choose for her cake as there are literally thousands of designs. So eventually after a thorough look through I chose the Personalised Unicorn Emoji Cake. Skye loves unicorns and is always on her phone using emojis as much as she possibly can so it made sense to pick this one. I knew she would love it.
Once that had been decided I had to choose which recipe the actual cake would be. There was a choice out of; traditional sponge, rich chocolate chip, lovely lemon drizzle, gluten wheat free sponge, dairy free sponge and fabulous fruit. Can I just point out that it was really nice seeing the gluten wheat free and dairy free options on the list, thumbs up to bakerdays for this!
For something a little different rather than a traditional sponge and something I knew she would like, I chose the rich chocolate chip.
Next was personalising it, I chose ‘Happy 12th Birthday Skye!’
Skye’s birthday is January 2nd, it doesn’t leave much room for delivery with Christmas and New Year holidays in the way so we hoped that would not be a problem. The cake we ordered actually arrived about 10 days before her birthday.
It came in a lovely round tin, there was a sticky pad on the bottom of the tin which keeps the cake board in place and a ‘pull here’ thick tab which you pull up and the cake lifts out of the tin. It was very well packaged and taking the paper off the top to see that actual design, I was in awe, it looked absolutely beautiful.
I did show Skye the cake when it arrived as I knew the design would blur due to the moisture of the cake by the time it was her birthday. Skye loved it and said I couldn’t have picked anything better for her.
The cake stays fresh for 14 days so we were good for it to be eaten on her birthday although I did have my doubts it would be as fresh and moist.
Skye’s birthday arrived and the cake came out. Like advised the print was a little blurred by this point, not as sharp but still looked lovely.
I sliced it into four pieces, one for each of us. The cake looked moist and delicious inside. Upon eating the cake we were very impressed with it. It was very moist like it had made that day, the rich chocolate chip flavour was so tasty. It was one of the best chocolate cakes we have tried.
Would I buy another Letterbox cake? Of course, I would, there are cakes for just about everything on the bakerdays website; birthday, Valentine’s, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Anniversary, New Baby, Engagement, Graduation, religious and so much more. With so many designs. Plus you can keep the tin and reuse it for whatever you want.
Not wanting a Letterbox cake? That’s ok as bakerdays also small, medium and large party cakes and cupcakes too!
