We were sent a My Holiday Journal from The Victoria Chart Company.
The My Holiday Journal is just that, A journal for children to use while they are on holiday whether that be a proper holiday or just a school holiday.
It is a 20 page, A4 journal which encourages children to write, colour, draw, stick and collect and when they have finished if they have Show and Tell at school it would have a perfect subject to share with the teacher and children.
We used it for the Whitsun school holiday week as there are 7 days to the journal.
The front cover has My Holiday Journal, This Journal belongs to: and there is a space for the child to write their name, So my daughter did this.
Inside the front cover is information such as what you might need to complete the journal, as well as reminders such as wearing sunscreen.
The next page has the Index where your child can index their ages and the dates.
Each day has a check list, I have remembered my: Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat, Protective clothes.
Your child can list what their favourite thing of the day was, and on the opposite page of the day is a Why not… section which gives you ideas on things to do, as well as a blank space which your child can draw, colour or stick things too.
At the end of the book is extra space for any extra bits your child wishes to add.
On the back over it has a space for your child to write who they will show the journal too.
My daughter loved filling this in. Every day after dinner she would fill in what she has done for the day including activities like riding her bike and walks in the woods. She took her time with it so her writing wasn’t scruffy and coloured in her drawings. She really enjoyed remembering what she had done throughout the day and putting it to paper. I think she was a little disappointed once the week was through and she had finished the journal.
I think it’s a great way for children not only to learn to write a diary as such but for helping with writing, drawing and creative skills too.
My daughter really looked forward to going back to school and showing her teacher and the other children her journal in Show and Tell. She told me that her teacher was very happy to see it.
I think this is a great idea for children and it gives them something to focus on throughout their holiday.
