It is nearing the time when my baby boy will be entering the world, having had two children already, one in the Summer and one in the Winter, you would think I would be able to remember what I used for them at bed times. My Summer baby was almost 19 years ago though and things have changed a lot on guidelines on what to use at bedtimes so it is like a brand new experience for me again. I am lucky that I have a great network of other mums due around the same time as me who advised that Grobags and Gro-Snugs were the way to go although a newborn has to have reached a specific weight before they can use a Grobag and Gro-Snug can be used for a newborn weighing 5lb – 12lb.
I was asked if I would like to try a Gro-Snug from The Gro Company and after explaining that I wasn’t actually due to have my son until the end of May I could still let you know my first impressions about it and then write a full review once he is here.
I chose the Gro-Snug Make a Wish Light Version, there are two versions of this, a light and cosy. The light is for warm rooms between 21 and 25 degrees Celsius, the Cosy version is for cool rooms between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius. I know how warm out house becomes by the end of May so the Light version would suit better.
The Make a Wish material is mainly white but has lots of small stars on it in yellows, turquoise/green and grey and can be used for both boys and girls.
A Gro-Snug is 2in1 it is a cross between a Grobag and a swaddle. It has seams on the front that gives enough space for a natural frog legged sleeping position which most babies do, it also has poppers on the armholes which allows for swaddling with the arms in or out.
It is a super soft jersey cotton with elastane for stretch and has a double lined chest for secure swaddle comfort.
As soon as this came I did wash it as I do with all clothing/bedding, it washes well in a 40 degree wash and I have not noticed any shrinkage, although it does state to allow up to 5% shrinkage. I have also tumble dried it and there was again no shrinkage and it kept its shape.
What I do really like about buying Gro-Snugs or Grobags from The Gro Company is that inside packaging they have also put a room thermometer in it, which is specific to the product you are using. For instance with the Gro-Snug it has the temperature the room is measuring at and across from that it tells you which version of the Gro-Snug would be best at this temperature.
Looking on the website under the Gro-Snugs it also gives you information on what baby should be wearing underneath the Gro-Snug at certain temperatures, which I think is fantastic information as sometimes it is hard to know what to put your baby in.
I cannot wait to start using this when my son is born and will give my full review once he is here and we have used it.
