Our regular elf Jinx didn’t visit us last year, Skye stopped believing in Father Christmas and knew we moved the elf around so we decided to give it a miss. This year a new elf arrived in our home on the first of December.
This elf doesn’t have a name yet because this year is more of an introduction to Christmas elves to Zander. Being only 2 he is not familiar with elves. We chose this elf because he looks a lot more appealing than the original especially to a 2-year-old and it seems a bit more robust just in case he does get tugged about.
As soon as Zander saw the elf he shouted ‘Christmas’ with an excited look on his face. So he did associate the elf with Christmas so that is a start. He immediately went up to him and gave him a cuddle. So cute.
During the day, the elf had sneakily taken a biscuit out of the tin. Zander saw the biscuit in the elf’s arms and took the biscuit. But he looked a bit panicked with the biscuit in his hand, should he have taken it or not?
We told him it was okay, the elf got it as a treat for Zander. He seemed happy with that and ate the biscuit.
The next morning the elf had moved and he was holding a packet of Snaps. Another treat for Zander.
When the elf brings a gift for Zander then it means he has been good, but some mornings he doesn’t have anything. If during the day Zander is good the elf will sneak a gift in for him. No funny business from this elf…yet. Maybe in a year or two.
Because Skye doesn’t believe anymore she is happy to move the elf around, which suits me as I do tend to forget and she enjoys it anyway as she loves to see the look on her little brothers face in the morning.
Next year will be slightly different when Jinx will be invited back and Elf will have a real name. We are going to let Zander choose the name. They may get into a bit of mischief next year too.
Do you have a Christmas elf or elves?
