It is National Ice Cream Day on Sunday 19th July and with the help on Kelly’s of Cornwall and Clarks we were able to celebrate it by making our own sundaes which are a must have on a hot day and especially on National Ice Cream Day.
We were sent a voucher to purchase a tub of Kelly’s of Cornwall Dairy Vanilla Ice Cream Clarks Dessert Sauce in flavours Tempting Chocolate Sauce, Tantalising Caramel Sauce, Sophisticated Strawberry Sauce, some Glacé cherries, Marshmallows, Chocolate drops and almonds.
Kelly’s of Cornwall is a Cornish ice cream made in Cornwall for over a 100 years that uses only the finest dairy ingredients, including lashings of Cornish whole milk and clotted cream from dairy cows grazing on lush green pastures. It’s the only genuine Cornish ice cream that is available nationwide. Flavours include classic clotted cream, clotted cream and strawberry, clotted cream and honeycomb, and brand new clotted cream and salted caramel.
Now I like to experience with sundaes and usually use fruit but since I forgot to purchase some while at the supermarket and forgetting the meringue too I had to make do with what I had. That didn’t stop us from making a flavoursome sundae.
As Skye loves sundaes as much as me we were the creators, well Skye was really and I just put the ingredients into the sundae glass.
This is how we made her Flavoursome Sundae;
Put a cherry and Clarks strawberry sauce to the bottom of the sundae tumbler.
Add a scoop of Kelly’s Ice Cream.
Layer a generous squeeze of caramel sauce on top of the ice cream.
Add 2 marshmallows.
(Sorry no more step by step photos at this point as the ice cream was melting)
Add another scoop of ice cream.
Layer the ice cream with chocolate sauce.
Add 2 cherries.
Top the glass up with 2-3 scoops of ice cream.
Add a generous squeeze of strawberry sauce, a sprinkle of crushed almonds and a cherry on the top.
There we have it, Skye’s Flavoursome Sundae.
Mine was very similar although I decided not to add the almonds and cherry on the top and my topping sauce was caramel. I also made the same for my husband.
We all love Kelly’s Ice Cream the clotted cream makes it taste absolutely delicious. No matter what flavour we have bought we have loved every one so far.
We hadn’t tried the Clarks Dessert Sauces before though so these were new to us.
Clarks (famous for its maple syrup and honey) has just this year launched a new range of delicious dessert toppings made with carob syrup (which is a low calorie, low gi alternative to refined sugar) which are perfect for topping ice cream. Flavours include scrumptious strawberry, tempting chocolate and tantalising caramel.
The strawberry looks like a real strawberry syrup, similar to what homemade jam looks like when it is being cooked on the stove. It is quite running but very delicious.
The Chocolate Sauce was very thick and took a bit of effort to squeeze out but was very nice. And the caramel looked and tasted exactly how I would imagine it to taste.
Skye’s favourite of the sauces was the strawberry sauce, myself, my husband and Tiff all liked the caramel sauce the best.
We have had fun making the sundaes and still have plenty of ingredients to make more and I will be buying extras to add to them too.
You can purchase Clark’s Dessert Sauces in Sainsbury’s and Kelly’s of Cornwall is available in most supermarkets nationwide.
