I was given the opportunity to review the Xtava Satin Wave 5-in-1 Curler and I couldn’t wait, it has been a long time since I owned any curling irons. They are salon grade Tourmaline Ceramic Barrels.
It arrived promptly in a lovely and sturdy black box. Inside the box was instructions and a black zip bag which contained the main curling unit, a heat glove which looks like a black exfoliating glove and 5 attachable pieces in different thicknesses so you can choose whether you want your hair to have a wave using the thickest piece or using the thinnest one for tight ringlets.
There is a black zip storage bag that can fit all of the pieces in which makes storing when not in use much better as it does not take up much room at all. It has a foil type inside which I think is heatproof although I have never actually put the curling iron in while it is hot of even warm.
I found that the instructions that came with this were very clear and it told me exactly how to use it and what temperatures are suitable for different hair types as sometimes it is hard to know which is the right temperature and I don’t particularly want to damage my hair.
The power cord is a generous length of 8 feet which swivels 360° also so much easier to reach to a mirror in the bedroom, this was a huge plus for me as my plug sockets are not very near to my wardrobe mirrors.
When first using them I found that adding each attachment was slightly difficult as they were quite stiff to put in properly to lock. However after pushing in and pulling out a few times it did get a lot easier to attach and lock them in place.
The main unit has a LED display which lights up green one you press the on button, the temperature flashes until it is up to temperature and then it is a static number once the temperature is correct. The temperature is also adjustable for your hair type by just pressing the + or – button.
I always add heat protection serum to my hair before styling it with anything that produces heat, hair dryer, curling irons and straighteners as this does help prevent heat damage. So once I had added the serum and my hair was clean and dry I tried it out.
The largest attachment gives a light wave to the hair, I think the wave looks nice, however as I have thick and heavy hair it dropped out fairly quickly.
My favourite attachment is the smallest, it gives tight ringlets but again as my hair is thick and heavy I found that the curl did drop but it was still there just not so tight.
My eldest daughter has also used this several times as she goes out a lot more than me and styles her hair daily and she loves it.
