I bet you have been wondering why I have not posted an update to my diary over the past few weeks, my reasons are purely as nothing much has really happened up until the latter end of week 16 anyway and with Christmas week a few days afterwards I had been extremely busy.
So now that I have some news here is my update…
After my NT screening tests I was worried what my results would be, considering I am 38 and overweight and I know a lot of people over 35 do get a high risk result. My results came through the post just four days after my scan and bloods were taken and thankfully there was nothing to worry about. My letter stated I was Low Risk. Phew!
At 16 weeks I had my midwife appointment and it was pretty boring to be honest, the usual checks were done, blood pressure, urine, how am I feeling in general and then the midwife got the doppler out and had a listen. My appointment lasted 10 minutes maximum and the best bit really was listening to the baby.
We had booked a Gender Scan for Saturday 19th December and this was the next little milestone we were looking forward to as hopefully we would find out what gender the baby was as an early Christmas present.
It was a surreal moment, the sonographer went straight to work finding baby’s bits and double checking. The other lady that was there handed my husband a paper bag and said “you can tell mum what she is having” before he had even opened the bag I had spotted it on the screen and said I knew what it was and she asked me what I though. I said a boy and she confirmed it. That was it, I was in tears of joy, it was so overwhelming, I did think I was carrying a boy but after two girls I had convinced myself by that point that the baby would be a girl. It was amazing.
Here is our little boy blowing a kiss to his mummy.
After an amazing weekend I started feeling really ill on the Monday and by Tuesday was full of cold and had a bad cough. I was dreading seeing the consultant coughing my guts up on the Wednesday morning.
That was a total waste of time. The reason I was consultant led care was due to my age and weight which she didn’t care about at all. She was more interested in referring me to the mental health team for PND that I had almost 19 years ago. I refused as I have not had any problems with depression since then and she referred me back to midwife led care which I am really pleased about.
So it has been a busy couple of weeks, we have been buying lots of blue outfits, Moses basket and other bits that we will need for the baby. He even has a name but I will not be announcing that until he is born.
My next appointment is the Anomaly scan in 3 weeks time so I probably won’t update again until then.
