My daughters and I love to bake cakes and cupcakes seems to be a particular favourite of theirs at the moment so when we were sent several different products for decorating our cakes from Cake Angels to review the girls couldn’t wait to get started.
We received Cake Angels Vanilla Icing, mini Marshmallows, Party Candles, 10 Flower Power cake decorations, 12 magic miniature cake decorations, a tub of Chocolate Passion and a tub of Pretty ‘n’ Pink.
First we had to make the cake mixture, the girls don’t particularly like helping with that bit so I am left to my own devices until I have finished then they will come back to lick the bowl.
Cupcake recipes are fairly simple and take no time at all to mix up.
This is the recipe I use (makes 24)
- 6oz Self Raising Flour
- 6oz Butter
- 6oz Caster Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Mix it all up and then put the mixture into cake cases. Bake for around 10 minutes at 180° or when the tops are golden brown.
Take them out of the oven and let them cool on a cooling rack. I usually leave them for between an hour to hour and a half so they are cold.
It was time to decorate the cakes. We decided to make 12 cupcakes and 12 what we call fairy cakes.
I first spooned all of the Cake Angels Vanilla Icing into my piping bag with a Wilton D2 nozzle and iced all 12 cup cakes. The consistency of the Vanilla Icing was perfect and it I found it piped out really well.
We then added different things to each cupcake. My youngest daughter loved the animal Magic Miniature cake decorations because of the butterflies and other animals on them, We put on Magic Miniature on each cake and added either something from the Chocolate Passion tub or the Pretty ‘n’ Pink tub. My youngest daughter decided what would go where on each cake.
I was really impressed with the cupcakes, they looks fantastic and almost professional. I added some rainbow dust to the cakes for a finishing touch.
The fairy cakes were topped off with what I call regular icing make with icing sugar, water and food colouring. My daughter again asked to add the toppings to these so I let her do what she wanted. We had cakes with marshmallows on, some with sprinkles, some with Magic Miniatures, some with items from the Chocolate Passion tub and some from the Pretty ‘n’ Pink tub.
These again looked great. Ok, not professional looking but the kids love them.
I am one that normally bakes cakes and decorate them from scratch making my own icing and just adding rainbow dust to finish them off. I was very pleased with the Cake Angels cake decorating products. My cakes looked fantastic and they tasted just as good.
Cake Angels take all of the hassle out of decorating cakes and their products are a great price too.
