Family holidays can be lots of fun, and for many parents, taking their little ones to see as many destinations around the world as possible is one of their 2017 goals. However, regular overseas travel isn’t always doable or affordable for families with small children, and many parents worry about taking their little ones on long flights. In the last few years, family ‘staycations’ have become hugely popular, with more and more mums and dads booking weekends and weeks away at fun locations around the UK. We’ve listed some of the best holiday activities for families in Anglesey, an island off the north-west coast of Wales.
Greenwood Forest Park
Located on the island of Anglesey, Greenwood Forest Park is a summer attraction for kids with a people-powered roller coaster, a solar-powered water slide, and the Enchanted WoodBarn, where kids can enjoy a mystical, magical world of play. Voted the best day out in North Wales for six years in a row, Greenwood Forest Park is a great place for families to get together for some fun and adventure.
Anglesey Sea Zoo
A unique aquarium that houses the best of British sea life, Anglesey Sea Zoo is the perfect attraction for kids and adults who are interested in fish and other marine animals. But, when you visit this aquarium, you’ll be disappointed if you’re hoping to see any tropical fish or large sharks. However, you’ll soon forget all about those when you see the various sea creatures that live around the coasts of the UK, such as octopus, crabs, seahorses and even some small British catsharks.
Pili Palas Nature World
Pili Palas provides a magical experience for all the family, and it’s an animal-lover’s paradise. With a huge range of creatures to meet from butterflies and creepy crawlies to lizards, snakes, donkeys, guinea pigs, rabbits, meerkats, and sheep, there’s something to keep every child entertained whether they’re a lover of all things cute and fluffy or prefer to get dirty in the mud with snails and worms. Don’t miss the alpacas on the nature trail, either! And, kids can play in the indoor play areas and adventure playground whilst adults can take advantage of the free Wi-Fi in the Meerkat Café.
Known as the ‘unfinished masterpiece’, Beaumaris Castle, located on the island of Anglesey, was originally built as one of the ‘iron ring’ castles by English king, Edward I, who planned to stamp his authority on the Welsh. However, the castle was never finished due to money and supplies running out beforehand. A superb sight, the castle is regarded by many to be the most technically perfect castle in Britain, and is an exciting visit for the whole family. Set in a scenic area overlooking mountains and the sea, it’s also the perfect location for a family picnic on holiday.
With so many great places on the island for the whole family to enjoy, make sure that the Isle of Anglesey is on your family travel list this summer!
