The importance of Pet Insurance
Published February 13, 2012 | When we bought Gizmo 4 years ago aged 6 months old, we immediately purchased Pet Insurance for him. Why? I don’t know, I just had a niggling feeling in the back of my mind that it was needed.
All I can say is thank god we did get him insured because a few months after getting him I noticed his pupil was shining white while his other the usual green glare when catching the light a certain way.
We got an emergency appointment at the vets, they checked him out and they said it looked as if his pupil had blown.
I couldn’t believe how the hell could that have happened he was treated like a prince, maybe he had jumped off the bed and stumbled, or fell into the wall while we were out and he was home alone.
I was stunned to say the least.
The vet then asked if we had pet insurance to which we said yes, The vet proceeded to tell us that if we hadn’t had insurance Gizmo would have had to have his eye removed and lids stitched together., However as he was insured he was taken straight to animal hospital and the very next day he had an operation that put a new lens in his eye. They told us it was the same type of operation they do to humans with cataracts.
I waited anxiously by the phone all day for the phone call that his operation went ok and he had come around.
Gizmo had to stay in the hospital for a few days to make sure he was ok, which he was. I was overjoyed when they said he could come home. I was overjoyed to get my little man home. It was like he had never gone away.
He recovered really well thankfully and has had no ill effects since the ordeal he did have to have monthly appointments at the animal hospital to check his progress for a year.
When we saw the bill that was sent to the pet insurance company for the operation, treatment and appointments it cost over £2000.
That is when I knew, I would never NOT have my pets insured EVER, They are far to precious too me. They are my babies!
