Zander now has teeth and I feel that as soon as you discover a tooth inside your baby’s mouth you you start creating a good brushing routine as soon as possible.
We were sent three products from the brush-baby Step 1 range to try with him. This is what we got; brush-baby Teething Wipes, brush-baby Soft Chewable Toothbrush and brush-baby Applemint toothpaste.
The brush-baby Soft Chewable Toothbrush is suitable from 10-36 months, Zander is only 9 months but he does have teeth and as it is really soft I have tried this on him already when he is not in pain obviously as I don’t want to be causing him unnecessary extra soreness.
It is very soft and bendy, there is a hole at the bottom of it so you can hold it and on the head on both sides there are soft silicone brush like stippling. Now this is fantastic for a first toothbrush as it is soft but it is also really quick to brush the teeth as you can do tip of the tooth and the back and front of the tooth in one go, which means less of an ordeal for baby. I smear a little of the Applemint toothpaste onto the brush and Zander is quite happy for me to do it. He does chew on the brush too but as it is soft it causes no harm, in fact it massages and soothes the gums.
It is very easy to keep clean too, either using soapy warm, rinse thoroughly under the tap or pop it in the dishwasher.
Sorry there are no photos of Zander using the tooth brush, however as you can imaging trying to hold the toothbrush and his other hand at the same time meant that I physically could not take any photos.
The Applemint toothpaste is suitable from 0-3 years old, it is specially formulated to protect young and developing teeth from decay. It contains Xylitol which helps reduce sugar acids and Fluoride which strengthen the enamel of your baby’s teeth. It is SLS Free.
It is a clear paste and I can smell the apple in it as soon as I open the cap. Zander seems to like it and it makes a change from regular mint toothpaste which is all I have seen on the shelf for babies.
Finally the Teething Wipes, these are designed to be introduced before baby starts teething, however Zander was teething and had teeth before we received these, but you can also rub them on the gums during teething to help prevent gum inflammation and pain. However they are not a teething remedy.
I have used these when Zander is in a lot of pain with his teeth as I try not to do anything that will make the pain worse for him and I do think using a toothbrush during painful times will add to the pain.
The teething wipes contain Xylitol and is Paraben and Fluoride Free. They are suitable for ages 0-16 months. A box of these contains 20 individually wrapped wipes.
They are little finger wipes, there is a little pocket where you place your finger inside and then you can rub it along the gum line and on any teeth that are there.
Zander seemed to enjoy having this done, although me, not so much as he does have a habit of chewing and biting anything that goes in his mouth so my poor finger does take quite a battering.
I do like that the wipes are individually wrapped so they are hygienic and they have camomile in them which is soothing.
I am lucky that Zander does not make a fuss with his brushing routine as I have been quite strict with it as soon as the first tooth was through which has been over three months now so he knows the routine.
I didn’t realise that brush-baby products were available in supermarkets, but I actually found the Soft Chewable Toothbrush in Tesco and Dental Wipes too. I hope they get the full range in soon.
I would definitely recommend these products to anyone that is looking for toothbrushes, toothpastes and teething wipes for their babies. They are great.
