Zander is almost 15 months old and he has been teething for a long while, his first tooth came through when he turned 6 months old. I have found that whenever he is close to getting a tooth coming through his urine seems stronger and he gets sore around his nappy area. As if they don’t suffer enough with the pain of teething and all the other symptoms!
What I have found that does work wonders for protecting against the causes of nappy rash is Bepanthen. It is a nappy care product that meets all the *9 gold standards of an ideal nappy care product.1
It is clinically tested for babies delicate skin, it enhances the natural protection of the skin, maintains optimum moisture levels, there are no unnecessary ingredients, it contains ingredients with documented safety and benefit, it is free from potentially toxic ingredients, it’s free from potential sensitisers such as fragrances, contains no antiseptics or preservatives and is pleasant to use.
Now you know if you are a mum yourself how quick nappy rash and sores can pop up very quickly and then if you are anything like me you will feel a little guilty that they are sore. It is easier in the day to try and protect against it as you can change the nappy whenever baby feels wet which is what I do with Zander. Although I know when he is going now as he holds his nappy and change him shortly after that as he is now holding his urine a little longer so will fill a nappy quickly and don’t want him sitting in dampness. But I do get slack with putting the Bepanthen on him after every nappy change and I do find from time to time he does get sore patches. I am luckily that it has never been an extreme case of it though, just a small sore patch and after a day or two of using the cream it will disappear.
Night time is the main culprit of nappy rash especially now when he is sleeping (kind of) through the night. He could be in a damp wet nappy for hours. For instance if he goes to bed at 6pm has a wee before falling asleep and doesn’t wake up until 6am that is 12 hours that he has spent in the damp/wet nappy and it is not like I want to wake him when he is asleep to change his nappy as he would be up half the night.
I coat Zander’s nappy area with Bepanthen every night before bed, I have made this routine since he started sleeping longer at night whether he has a sore bum or not. Bepanthen works to protect against the causes of nappy rash. This does seem to do the trick and like I said before we may get the odd sore patch but nothing worse than that.
When I know a tooth is coming through I will try to remember to put the cream on him at every nappy change as his wee seems a lot stronger at that time and he definitely needs the extra protection against his delicate areas.
I have been using Bepanthen for 10 years, on both my daughter and now Zander and swear by it and will not use any other form of nappy creams. It really does do what it says on the packet, one tube lasts a long time, it’s reasonably priced and I would recommend it to all my mummy friends.
